Vinyl is a flexible coating which is presented in a continuous or in separated tiles. Both types require the surface to be as level as possible and not to have any kind of irregularity. It's a cheap and quick option that gives you great resistance and durability.
You can find a wide range of colors and designs, including those that imitate marble or wood. There are also vinyls presented in mosaic attached with glue, self-adhesive mosaics or roll mosaics.
Before starting to install the vinyl floor, you have to empty the room of furniture and thoroughly clean the surface of the ground. Then draw two perpendicular lines in the center of the room. The meeting point will be the starting point to lay the vinyl floor. Remove the adhesive paper and paste the vinyl floor with a spatula or rubber sledge hammer.
To install the part of the floor that is next to the wall, measure the surface and cut the vinyl tile with a cutter. You have to wait at least 48 hours before walking over the floor again.
It may happen that the kitchen worktop is damaged by use or you just want to change it.
If you want a cheap option, you could substitute the worktop by chipboard of any color. Silestone worktops have the advantage of being antibacterial and their durability is very high. They are composed of 94% natural quartz, hence its high strength.
The marble or granite are classic in kitchens. They are very strong and resistant materials. Granite, being a natural stone is also porous..
To change the kitchen worktop, first, of course, you have to remove the old one. You also have to remove the glass-ceramic hob, the sink and close the water valves. To remove the worktop and sink you can use a spatula and a sledge hammer.
Removed the old worktop, you have to place it over the new one in order to calculate the dimensions of the worktop and location of the holes for the sink and glass ceramic hob.
The worktop is fastened to the kitchen furniture with mounting adhesive. To seal the back, making it waterproof, use a silicone gun. In case of choosing chipboard, you would need to place protective stainless steel parts on the sides, that will be screwed around the worktop.
To finish, just place the sink and the glass ceramic hob and seal them with silicone.
To start, choose a mirror that fits right above the basin. We measure the mirror to calculate its middle point, in order to be able to center it with the basin and we also measure the basin to calculate the center of it. You have to place the mirror 15 cm above the basin.
If the holes where the spikes go are indicated in the back of the mirror, measure the distance from the center to each point and do the same marks on the wall.
Then place an open envelope with some tape on the wall, just below the points where you will drill holes. Thus, dust will fall on the envelope, and as little as possible will get dirty.
Then the anchors and spikes are placed. Make sure that everything is secure and then, very carefully, hang the mirror that will decorate the bathroom.
To replace a tile first we must clean the surface where it is placed and we will spread a tiling adhesive with a trowel spatula. Once the tile is positioned on the clean and glued surface, press hard with the necessary (you can use a rubber sledge hammer) and accurate strength to level it. After drying, we will fill the joints and let it dry, removing the remaining filler.
In case you want to change a broken tile, the first thing we should do is break it from the middle to the sides with a sledge hammer and chisel. Subsequently, we will remove the remains of the tile glued to the floor. You can use the scraper in order to leave the surface smooth and clean where you will place the new tile. Then, proceed to place the new tile.
To place accessories in bathrooms and kitchens, we only need a drill (to make holes in the tiles) and the accessories.
We begin by calculating the distance between holes taking into account the characteristics of the accesory. Mark the wall and make sure that the holes are level. With the drill bit and the corresponding anchors and screws, place the accessories.
To change a plug we will need a flathead screwdriver and a wire stripper (or scissors).
IMPORTANT: turn the power off while working.
IMPORTANT, power must be disconnected again when the connections have been checked.
The gresite is made with a very similar material to regular tiles and its size, composed in mosaic (square cloth with small glued parts) is also very similar to a regular tile.
When buying gresite, keep in mind that we must buy at least 10% more than the quantity needed to ensure that, if necessary, we have enough material to complete the task. In addition, we will be able, if necessary, to remove one of the pieces that make up the gresite and replace it with another color, for example.
Installing gresite is very similar to tiling. Before you start, it is important to ensure that the wall where you will place the gresite is level, crack free and clean, with no trace of any kind of dust, grease or similar to avoid adhesion problems.
The most appropriate adhesive for installing gresite is mortar epoxy adhesive, because gresite has usually a very low density. Prepare the mixture of the adhesive according to manufacturer's instructions and begin installing the gresite from the center of the room to the sides. Apply the adhesive with a spatula and put the gresite pressing hard and hitting with a rubber sledge hammer. We will continue the process slowly, making sure all the tiles are level.
Let it dry at least 24 hours before placing the joints.
With the rust, dust or grease that accumulates on pincers, pliers, wrenches etc... it is sometimes difficult to open and use them comfortably. We can make them be perfect again cleaning them first with a brush dipped in alcohol and then leaving them overnight submerged in oil.
